PFAS-free cosmetics

What is PFAS?

'PFAS', also called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances is a collective name for harmful substances with the same type of compound. Unfortunately, it turns out that PFAS is widely used in mainstream cosmetics because it has a grease, dirt and water repellent effect. So ideal for a waterproof mascara, but unfortunately very harmful in daily use. It is not limited to waterproof mascaras: PFAS are also used in foundation, eye make-up and lipsticks, the study shows.

How harmful is PFAS?

The European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA) has set guidelines for a maximum amount of PFAS through food or drinking water, but not for PFAS absorbed through the skin. The standard set is above 0.5 grams per day, however if you use regular cosmetics, you already easily exceed this standard.

Once PFAS is in your body, it takes a very long time to disappear again. The breakdown can take up to 15 years. If you allow PFAS to enter your body through products every day, the PFAS present will only continue to increase.

Cancer is one of the most serious risks is, but it is important to note that such effects can only occur at high concentrations. More likely, PFAS affects the immune system, making the body more susceptible to disease and inflammation. It is also known that it can affect cholesterol levels and the functioning of the liver and thyroid gland, not to mention that it is an endocrine disruptor.

With us, you don't have to worry about PFAS in your cosmetics because all our natural cosmetics are PFAS-free. No hassle, just enjoy your favourite cosmetics without those nasty substances.
